Les acteurs armés non étatiques et les mines: volume II disponible dorénavant - 24.11.06

Ce texte n'existe qu'en anglais.

At the global level, current and former non-state actors (NSAs) are contributing to humanitarian mine action, understood as activities which aim to reduce the social, economic and environmental impact of landmines and unexploded ordnance. The present report completes the 2005 GIAN-supported first volume “A Global Report Profiling NSAs and Their Use, Acquisition, Production, Transfer and Stockpiling of Landmines”.

The report, was presented in the framework of the Third Review Conference of the Convention on Conventional Weapons in Geneva, Switzerland on 16 November 2006. It compiles and analyses data on NSA involvement in the five pillars of mine action (mine ban advocacy, stockpile destruction, mine clearance, mine risk education, and victim assistance), and includes stakeholders’ views on the benefits, difficulties and lessons learned in this regard.

The report is part of a research project coordinated by Geneva Call, with financial support provided by the Geneva International Academic Network (GIAN), the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Government of Italy. Institutions contributing to the research project are the Graduate Institute of International Studies, the University of Geneva, the United Nations Mine Action Service and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining.

Both reports are now available online on the GIAN’s website: http://www.ruig-gian.org . Hardcopies can be obtained by writing to info@genevacall.org . For further information on the reports, please contact Anki Sjöberg, Research Coordinator +41 22 879 10 50.
