Conference on Vietnam's Economic Development and State-Society Relations in Asia – 14-15 December at GIDS/IUED

The conference "Economic Internationalisation, Human Development and State-society Relations in Asia: Learning from Vietnam" is supported by the GIAN's "Small Grants" programme.

Organised by the Graduate Institute of Development Studies (GIDS), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Trade Centre (ITC-UNCTAD/WTO) and the University of Geneva, the objective of the conference is to contribute to the debate on development processes and policy, especially the respective role of the market and the State in a context of globalisation. Participants will explore the links between economic growth and human development and the relationship between economic development and governance particularly from the perspective of the Vietnamese experience, a successful case of economic growth, internationalisation and poverty reduction.

The conference will be of interest for academics, permanent missions to the United Nations in Geneva, Swiss and international organisations, private enterprises aiming at developing business in Vietnam and other countries in the region, as well as a broader public interested in Asia. The conference is the first of a series of conferences included in the "Programme d’Etudes et de Recherches sur l’Asie Contemporaine" jointly convened by the GIDS, the Graduate Institute of International Studies (GIIS) and the University of Geneva.
